Electrical Inspection

Electrical Inspections

Electrical Infrared Imaging (IR)

Infrared thermography is used to perform Preventative and Predictive Maintenance inspections on electrical equipment. Excess resistance on electrical apparatuses indicates electrical faults such as loose connections, overloaded or imbalanced circuits, faulty breakers, damaged switches, faulty fuses and a wide range of other unwanted electrical conditions.

Aerial Roof Infrared Scan (IR)

Our RoofScan using Thermal Imaging is proven and effective for evaluating the moisture in a wide range of flat roofs. Pinnacle Infrared’s RoofScan can save money by performing a roof inspection and pinpointing areas that may need maintenance and repair. An Infrared roof scan is often the quickest and most cost-effective technique for leak detection.

Building Envelope Evaluation

Building Envelope Evaluations

Structure Thermographic Inspections

Pinnacle Infrared has the expertise to conduct building envelope system consulting, investigation and evaluation on various buildings. Pinnacle Infrared has been engaged numerous times to find deficiencies that may be present in the building envelope (e.g. roofing, walls, foundations, masonry, cladding waterproofing, windows, airtightness, storefronts, etc.) In these cases, Pinnacle Infrared has also been retained to review the actual construction and compare to design documents to determine adherence to standards. We also provide window testing in accordance with ASTM established procedures to ensure a long-term watertight wall system.

We combine the powerful tool of infrared thermography with knowledge of architectural details, engineering expertise, application of best practices, and a thorough inspection protocol. This capability and diligence provides the owner with substantial proof that the building envelope is installed in a watertight manner and in accordance with the design.

Below are a few of the standard ASTM tests that we perform:

  • ASTM C1060 Standard Practice for Thermographic Inspection of Insulation Installations in Envelope Cavities of Frame Buildings
  • ASTM C1153 Standard Practice for Location of Wet Insulation in Roofing Systems Using Infrared Imaging
  • ASTM C1601 Standard Test Method for Field Determination of Water Penetration of Masonry Walls
  • ASTM E783 Standard Test Method for Field Measurement of Air Leakage through Installed Exterior Windows and Doors
  • ASTM E1105 Field Determination of Water Penetration of Installed Exterior Windows, Skylights, Doors, and Curtain Walls, by Uniform or Cyclic Static Air Pressure Difference
  • ASTM E1186 Standard Practices for Air Leakage Site Detection in Building Envelopes and Air Barrier Systems
  • ASTM E2018 Standard Guide for Property Condition Assessments: Baseline Property Condition Assessment Process

Infrared Utility Scans

For Transmission & Distribution Equipment

One way for a utility to deliver a superior product is for it to use infrared thermography (IR) as a preventative maintenance (PM) tool in its generating stations and on its transmission/distribution (T&D) system.*

Performing infrared scans on transmission and distribution equipment can save power companies and municipalities hundreds of thousands of dollars each year and increase the reliability and reduce power outages for their customers.

With our high resolution cameras and telephoto lenses, Pinnacle Infrared can survey a large number of items and hundreds of miles of lines. Routine infrared scans of critical equipment can help identify anomalies prior to failure. This helps avoid emergency restoration, and component damage/deterioration. Additionally, work can be scheduled in advance at a convenient time.

Using your system maps, our expert thermographers will quickly and efficiently drive down the lines of your system with state-of-the-art imaging systems and record all imagery and GPS position data onto digital storage. When a problem is discovered, we mark the area on the map and quickly produce reports detailing the fault information so that repair crews can be mobilized to remedy the problem.

Blockwall/CMU Evaluations

Blockwall Infrared Scan (IR)

Most believe the only way to confirm the proper placement of the grouted cells, bond beams, insulation, and other Concrete Masonry Unit components is to hammer into the wall.

The sample taken from this test is inadequate because it is often less than one ten thousandth of a percent; we cannot determine where the blockages to the insulation and/or too much grout exist.

There are only two other options but are extremely costly: x-ray or completely tear the wall down.

There is a building inspection method that is accurate, non-destructive and inexpensive. This is the way to see the grouted cells in the entire wall section.

The Infrared imaging testing method can be performed at any time during the construction process without interrupting any other trades or affecting the progress of the rest of the building. This IR building inspection is also a viable technique for finding moisture and missing insulation.

Structural problems in a CMU building are a real problem. If the wall receives a trauma (hurricane force wind/tornado) resulting in customers or employees being injured, the legal ramifications can be devastating. A forensic examination of a block wall that is laid on the ground after the event will reveal the structural deficiencies. The building owner, architect, structural engineer, general contractor, and masonry contractor can be held accountable when these deficiencies are documented.

However, two benefits arise from having a BlockWallScanIR infrared test performed on your newly constructed CMU walls. First, a documented record of the grouted cells and other structural components (in-situ) is created. Secondly, when and if deficiencies are found, a report can be generated so that corrections can be made with surgical precision.

Infrared Thermal Imaging of existing CMU blockwall is perfect when the grout and bond beam position is not known. We have been successful at obtaining occupancy permits when the on-site inspection was not performed or was not complete.
